They just can't stop shrinking things, can they?

Steve just can't seem to get enough of it. Just 2 years after the release of the Macbook Air, the world's slimmest notebook, He's at it again with an update.

Behold, the MacBook Air 11", the NEW world's slimmest notebook.

The 11

With an 11" 16:9 widescreen, weighting in at under 3 pounds, and packing the powerful Core 2 Duo processor with 2 gigs of DDR3 RAM, this beauty has spunk. Not only that, when compared alongside it's cousin, the 13", the 11" really shines in terms of mobility and size, despite maintaining an LED backlit glossy screen and Apple's MultiTouch system.

In terms of performance, the Macbook Air shows that it's not all talk. With a 1.4 - 1.6 Ghz dual core processor and 2GB DDR3 RAM, this thing packs a serious punch that can outmatch even full sized desktops this day. Also, it comes with an Nvidia 320M graphics card, giving it an even bigger advantage over computers in it's own range that mainly consists of netbooks. Of course, it could never fight a standard laptop, but this baby can really hold it's own. Not only that, it's flash SSD hard drive allows it to boot in no time at all.

The MacBook Air 11

Of course, that isn't to say that it does not come with weaknesses. Like it's cousin, the 11" Macbook Air gains it's compact size for a price. It only has 1 USB port, and does not come with a firewire or ethernet port. This time however, the MacBook Air is also missing an SD card slot. This could really hurt video/photographers as they use these cards on a daily basis, especially since it comes with iLife'11. Also, like the 13" version, it's keyboard is not backlit, so for those who work in the night, you will have to light your laptop externally. It also suffers from weak battery life, barely making 3 hours when under heavy workloads. Finally, it's excessively lightweight frame gives it an amusing tendency to flip over at times.

In conclusion. the MacBook Air 11" is a beautiful notebook for web surfing, watching HD content, as well as light to mild workloads like word processing and basic editing. If you're in the market for a lightweight, compact and work capable notebook, the MacBook Air would be a good choice. However, if you are looking for something with raw firepower, expect heavy editing/intensive workloads, or are looking for a primary computer, perhaps this is not the best choice for you.
